– Knowledge of flexible bronchoscopes (sizes, appropriate tube sizes, basic physics, parts, movement, attachments, preparation, care, and sterilisation); accessories including camera and monitors; Portable battery versus disposable version.
– Information about indications, contraindications, advantages, and disadvantages of flexible bronchoscope
– Latest updates and recommendations on flexible bronchoscopy
– Preparation of the patient (from understanding the relevant anatomy to anaesthetising the airway and choices of sedation)
– Fibreoptic intubation via nasal/oral on mannequins
– Experience flexible bronchoscopy simulator (ORSIM) in different airway scenarios

2. Supraglottic Airway (SGA) and Intubation through SGA

– Knowledge on different types of SGA and their respective advantages and disadvantages; indications and contraindications of SGA
– Hands-on SGA insertion technique on mannequins and confirm SGA placement
– Discussion on the use of SGA in special clinical situations: obese patients; controlled mechanical ventilation and risk of gastric aspiration
– Skill for endotracheal intubation with flexible scope via SGA

3. Videolaryngoscopes & Bonfils

– Overview and understanding of the advantages and limitations of different types of videolaryngoscopes: channelled vs non-channelled
– Identify relevant anatomy via videolarnygoscopes
– Tips on troubleshooting problems encountered during videolaryngoscopy
– Understanding techniques and hands-on with rigid fibreoptic intubating endoscope

4. Emergency Front of Neck Access (FONA)

– Review of latest guidelines and recommendations regarding FONA
– Overview of indications, preparation, and techniques of FONA
– Skills to identify cricothyroid membrane and the relevant anatomy
– Hands-on FONA techniques on mannequin

5. Ultrasonography of Airway and Gastric

– Overview of the sonoanatomy of the upper airway
– Applications of ultrasonography in airway management

o   Assessment of the diameter of the upper subglottic airway and prediction of endotracheal tube size
o   Prediction of difficult laryngoscopy in obese patient
o   Placement of endotracheal intubation, esophageal intubation, and double lumen tube
o   Detection of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) position
o   Elective transtracheal cannulation and emergency cricothyrotomy

– Use of gastric ultrasonography in assessing patient’s aspiration risk

6. Paediatrics Airway

– Understanding of normal paediatric airways and predicting difficult airways
– Understanding the preparation and processes involved in performing an intubation
– Knowledge to identify common problems and solutions during paediatric intubation
