Prof Ellen O’Sullivan, FCAI, FRCA, FCPSP, FCANECSA, FESAIC
A consultant anaesthesiologist at St James’s Hospital in Dublin, Ireland Prof O’Sullivan has a subspecialty interest in airway management. She is Director of the Fellowship in Advanced Airway Management and Simulation which she set up and has been running for over 15 years & has supervised both local & International fellows.
She is a founding member and Past President of the Difficult Airway Society, DAS. She was appointed DAS Professor of Anaesthesia & Airway Management in 2018. Prof O’Sullivan is an Executive Director of WAAM (World Alliance for Airway Management) and chaired WAMM 1, 2 & 3 in Florence Italy. She is also Director of International Airway Management Society (IAMS)
Prof Ellen O’Sullivan is Past-President of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (CAI). She is presently the National Airway Lead Advisor for the CAI which has designated airway leads in all teaching departments in the country. She is elected member of the European Society of Anesthesiology & Intensive care (ESAIC) and on the scientific committee. She has received numerous medals and awards.
A particular interest of Prof O’Sullivan’s is Global Anaesthesia and supporting education and training in low & middle income countries. For the past 25 years she has worked on education projects in Malawi & Uganda including Lifebox and more recently the Global Capnography Project.
Clinically she has developed a worldwide reputation in airway management and has lectured and taught workshops internationally. She has a substantial portfolio of research and has authored more than 100 scientific papers with h-Index of 33.
