Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Fahmi bin Lukman is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist at Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital, Malaysia, and an Associate Professor at the National Defence University of Malaysia (NDUM). He currently serves as Deputy Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies at the Faculty of Medicine and Defence Health, where he leads postgraduate training, research development, and clinical innovation initiatives within the defence-health domain.

He obtained his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Medicine (Anaesthesiology) degrees from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Dr. Fahmi’s clinical and academic interests focus on airway management, emergency airway procedures, and neuroanaesthesia, with particular emphasis on high-risk, time-critical scenarios in emergency environments.

An active airway workshop faculty member, he is regularly involved in simulation-based training and hands-on instruction, with a teaching approach that integrates human factors, ergonomics, and decision-making in “can’t intubate, can’t oxygenate” (CICO) situations.

Dr Fahmi is the inventor of the IComPBag, a multi-award-winning inflatable patient positioning device designed to optimise airway access and procedural efficiency. The IComPBag is particularly suited for patient positioning during emergency front-of-neck access (eFONA) airway procedures, facilitating rapid neck extension, improved anatomical exposure, and enhanced operator ergonomics. It is designed for use in operating theatres, emergency departments, prehospital settings, and airway simulation training.

He has co-authored multiple books and publications in anaesthesia, resuscitation, and pain management, with a strong focus on translating innovation into safer airway practice.
