Dr Faisal Shamim is an Associate Professor & Consultant in Department of Anaesthesiology, Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan. He joined anaesthesia residency program there in year 2000 and holding fellowship & membership qualifications (FCPS, MCPS) in Anaesthesiology from College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). Dr Shamim has been associated with same department as Faculty since 2005. He has pursued a wide range of clinical, educational, research and administrative interests to date. His special interest is Difficult Airway Management, US guided Regional Anaesthesia and Critical Care. In 2025, he has been granted the Fellow of the Difficult Airway Society (FDAS) award for contributions to airway management, DAS and the specialty through education, research, clinical leadership and societal involvement. He also received ‘Distinguished Education Award’ by International Airway Management Society in 2022 at annual conference. In 2019, he has received ‘Tuoren Exchange Program Award’ by World Airway Management Meeting (WAMM) & International Airway Management Society (IAMS). He is also selected as ‘Founding Director’ from Pakistan for International Airway Management Society (IAMS). He joined Surgical Intensive Care Unit from January 2011 and become Program Director, Critical Care Medicine-Anaesthesiology Fellowship in 2017. For his remarkable contribution towards teaching and education, the University gave him ‘Outstanding Teaching Award’ for year 2016. Dr Shamim has also been given ‘Faculty Development Award’ for training and experience in Intensive Care for which he did hands on clinical attachment at Galway University Hospitals, Ireland for three months. He is also CPSP Supervisor for trainees both in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Over sixty Publications in various international and national indexed journals to his credit.
